Dr Steve Badman has spent the last 10 years specialising in point of care testing for viral and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) in a number of international settings. As noted in his ORCID keywords - Steve has a diverse and specialised skill set including POC implementation in remote and low-middle income locations. His PhD focused on the molecular diagnosis of STIs at the POC in high burden settings which included a number of major challenges and key responses required to successfully implement and maintain (rapid and GeneXpert) POC testing under difficult conditions. He also holds an MPH (epi/research methods) and is a qualified Justice of the Peace (JP) in Queensland - Australia. His other interests include the development of in-house quality controls (QC) for use at the POC and lightweight - lithium - power packs which act as an alternative power source to 110/240V general power and can be recharged by AC/DC, wind and/or solar for POC instruments such as GeneXpert, laptops and centrifuges. Steve’s current research is focused on CT/NG and HPV sample pooling and evaluating alternatives to ThinPrep for HPV POC same day test and treat strategies.
